Ahead of the 2026 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, which kicks off on Thursday 5 March, all 18 club captains have shared their predictions on how the season’s biggest moments will unfold. Eleven captains have backed reigning premiers, the Brisbane Lions, to make a fourth consecutive Toyota AFL Grand Final appearance in 2026. Collingwood’s Nick Daicos (eight votes) is the captains’ favourite to win the Brownlow Medal, followed by the Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli (five votes). The Sydney Swans' Charlie Curnow is expected to make a significant impact at his new club, with four captains tipping him to be the competition’s leading goalkicker. Meanwhile, Carlton’s Jagga Smith (10 votes) was the most popular pick for the Telstra AFL Rising Star. Captains were also asked to predict the players most likely to claim Goal of the Year and Mark of the Year, plus share the matchup they are most looking forward to and who they would like to see perform at the Grand Final as part of the Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment.
