GEELONG has got its man, with St Kilda's Jack Steven now calling Kardinia Park home.

The Cats used pick No.58, which was received from Gold Coast in exchange for Zac Smith, to land the four-time Saints best and fairest winner.

It brings to a close protracted talks between the two sides, which have extended throughout the Telstra AFL Trade Period.

Steven, who grew up in Lorne, had requested a trade to the Cats to be closer to family despite being contracted for the 2020 season.

The midfielder has had a tough year, taking an extended break to assist his mental health after round six before returning for the Saints' final three games.

The Saints have consistently maintained they wanted what was best for Steven's mental health, even if that meant letting one of their best players move elsewhere with a year to run on his deal.

"We are very pleased to have this deal finalised, one which garnered a positive result for all players involved," Geelong list manager Stephen Wells said.

"Everyone at Geelong is looking forward to having Jack on board. Jack is a quality player and we are excited to be adding him to our playing list."

Originally taken with pick No.42 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, Steven has played 183 games for the Saints.
