GEELONG has secured superstar midfielder Patrick Dangerfield until the end of 2024, adding three more seasons to the 2016 Brownlow medallist's existing deal.

Dangerfield will turn 34 in the final year of his contract and his commitment follows that of Mitch Duncan (also 2024) and Gary Rohan (2021) this week.

The Cats have continually backed their best veterans in to perform well into their 30s, with Joel Selwood, Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs also scoring long-term deals in the past four years.

Dangerfield crossed to Geelong in a high-profile trade from Adelaide at the end of 2015 and has won three Cats club champion awards and been an All Australian each year in the four seasons since.

The father-of-two is only six games away from playing his 100th match in the navy and white hoops and just two from making his 250th senior appearance overall.

Geelong football boss Simon Lloyd said Dangerfield's performance since arriving at the Cattery had been "exceptional".

"His overall commitment to the club and will to compete has been outstanding," Lloyd said.
