THE WESTERN Bulldogs have appointed former champion Chris Grant as the club's new director of football.

The newly created position will involve duties associated with running both the female and male teams.

Grant had served on the board from late 2011 as a non-executive football director.

"Coming back to the role in a full-time role was an incredibly exciting opportunity," Grant told the club's website.

Bulldogs CEO David Stevenson said the role was created with the expansion of the club's football department in mind.

"Chris' appointment acknowledges the evolving football landscape, and puts us in a strong position to deliver an elite performance environment for all three teams [women, men and VFL] going forward," he told the club website.

"Graham Lowe will continue in his leadership position as (football manager)."
