GEELONG will respond by the end of Tuesday to the AFL's 'please explain' over the secret concussion deal it made with Jake Kolodjashnij in 2024.

The Cats' Board met on Monday morning to work through the club's response after news of the waiver with Kolodjashnij became public last week.

Geelong initially didn't receive a sanction from the AFL, who on Thursday said in a statement they were "satisfied that the letter was not used by Geelong to allow a medically unfit player to return to play".

But on Friday, Geelong CEO Steve Hocking confirmed the club had received a 'please explain' from the AFL before Kolodjashnij, 30, came forward as the previously unidentified player at the centre of the case.

"We acknowledge this has been a challenging time for Jake, our Club and Geelong supporters," Cats president Grant McCabe said on Monday.

"The Board has met this morning to discuss our response to the AFL's letter, that will be submitted by end of day Tuesday 11 August. This will provide the Club with the chance to detail the actions it took in navigating this complex matter. We welcome this opportunity.

"The Club remains committed to providing our players with the highest standard of care and support."

Once the Cats submit their response, the AFL will assess the outcome under its rules and regulations.
