MELBOURNE forward Jacob van Rooyen faces a nervous wait for the MRO after the forward's swinging arm left Aliir Aliir concussed in his 200th game.

The crowd held its collective breath after Aliir hit the ground and did not move for several worrying seconds, before eventually being helped to his feet by trainers.

Van Rooyen booted two goals as the Demons did what they pleased to run out comfortable 76-point winners, but the in-form spearhead will now be sweating on the outcome of the MRO findings.

Port Adelaide coach Josh Carr provided an update on the key defender, who failed his HIA test during the second term and did not return.

"He's OK, he's a little bit flat and a bit quiet, but Aliir is Aliir and he'll find a way to get himself up," Carr said.

"I haven't looked at it closely (the incident), but I can see how it happens. "Obviously it didn't look great but I didn't think it was overly malice either."

Melbourne coach Steven King played a straight bat when asked about the incident.

"I haven't really seen it to be honest," he said.

"Obviously Aliir went down which is really unfortunate for him, being such a brave intercept player, but it's something I'll need to go and have a good look at tonight when I start coding."

King said he was most pleased with his side's start to the contest after the highs of last week's win over minor premier Fremantle.

"There was a lot on the line for us and to take care of business in the manner that we did, that for me was the most pleasing part of the game," King said.

"We were able to create some turnovers and punish them on the scoreboard off the back of those, so that was pleasing. Being able to defend in a manner that we'd like to, albeit not the whole game, but certainly the second half was a lot more like the way we'd like to play."

King praised Melbourne's forward line, which saw six players kick multiple goals.

"It's pleasing, we don't rely on one, it's a weight of numbers approach," King said.

"I'm thrilled for guys that just step up at the right time and impact. I think all our guys ahead of the ball competed really strongly.

"I'm just thrilled for guys like Bailey Laurie who popped up tonight, Kade Chandler in his 100th to kick four, 'Fritta' (Bailey Fritsch) was unbelievable, I thought 'Petts' (Harrison Petty) competed strongly and 'Roo' (Jacob van Rooyen) and 'Jeffo' (Matthew Jefferson) just pop up at the right times, they just keep going at the game.

"I was really proud of Jeffo and his ability to fight back in the second half and impact. When he had a run and jump at the ball he was able to impact."

Although set to lead the Demons into the finals in his first season as senior coach, King said his focus remains fixed on next week.

"I'll think about that after next week, we've still got the Bulldogs to play in seven days," he said.

"We still need to win again to cement ourselves in that top six, so I'll worry about finals after that."
