UNTRIED Port Adelaide duo Jesse Palmer and Dougal Howard have signed one-year deals that will see them remain at Alberton Oval in 2017.

Neither Palmer nor Howard made their AFL debuts in 2015 – their first year in the League – but showed enough to warrant the club offering them another season to prove their worth.

Howard, 19, battled injury early last season before playing at SANFL level for the Magpies, while Palmer was one of the Magpies' best – leading to him being named as an emergency for the senior team late in the year.

Coach Ken Hinkley said both had earned their contract extensions.

"Dougal and Jesse have both shown promise in their first season at the club, and we're really comfortable with their performance," Hinkley told the Power's website.

"Jesse gave us a bit at SANFL level and played most of the season, had an impact up forward and gave himself a good base to launch himself from for this year.

"Dougal battled a stress fracture in the first half of the season, but he gave us something for the rest of the year, played in a couple of positions and has worked really hard on the track this summer."

Both players are likely to feature in Port's internal trial game on Friday evening.
