MELBOURNE has named vice-captain Jack Viney for his first game of the season but has lost two key talls, Carlton will be without forward Will Hayward and the Western Bulldogs have regained ruck Tim English. 

Viney will take the field in the Demons' wildcard final clash with the Blues on Saturday night after playing just one VFL game to build match fitness, with Achilles and back problems having ruled him out for most of the season.

But Melbourne must make do without defender Jake Lever (toe) and forward Matthew Jefferson (knee), while premiership back Christian Salem has been dropped for youngster Xavier Taylor, who hasn't played since round seven.  

Daniel Turner has been named despite battling a knee complaint, while the retiring Jake Melksham returns for what could be the final game of his 17-year career. 

Blues forward Hayward is still recovering from an ankle injury suffered in a spectacular mark taken against the Western Bulldogs in round 23, and won't face the Demons, while Nick Haynes has been named to replace fellow defender Wade Derksen.

English's return from a knee injury suffered against North Melbourne in round 22 will give the Dogs a huge boost in their wildcard final against Collingwood on Friday night, replacing youngster Lachie Carmichael.

The Magpies regain defender Isaac Quaynor and midfielder Pat Lipinski, with rookie defender Liam Puncher and the injured Scott Pendlebury (hamstring) making way.
