NORTH Melbourne says it will "consider its options" after forward Zane Duursma requested a move to Melbourne following three seasons at Arden Street.

As reported by AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey on Tuesday morning, the 21-year-old had informed the club he was keen to land at the Demons this off-season.

Duursma has played 38 games and kicked 28 goals since being selected with pick No.4 in the 2023 AFL Draft, but is now seeking a fresh start.

"Zane Duursma has informed North Melbourne of his desire to seek a move to another AFL club in the upcoming Trade Period," North said in a statement.

"The club will now consider its options ahead of the trade and free agency period."

The 21-year-old played 15 games in 2026 and didn't play again after round 16 after struggling to cement his place in the Roos' side.

Despite not locking down a regular spot, Duursma remains highly regarded across the competition after showing flashes of the talent that made him one of the standout prospects in his draft class.

The trade request comes during a period of significant change for the Kangaroos following last week's sacking of coach Alastair Clarkson.

Duursma had been expected to explore his options at season's end, with a move to the Demons long viewed as his preferred outcome.

Melbourne is in the midst of a list refresh itself as it looks to inject more youth into its squad.

The Demons informed vice-captain Jack Viney on Monday that he was free to explore his options as the club prioritises younger talent through the midfield.
