BRISBANE is the 'Bounce Back King' of the past four seasons and there's some key metrics to keep an eye on as it looks to do the same against Adelaide on Saturday night.

Since the start of 2023, the Lions have been beaten by 50 points or more on seven occasions.

Five of the previous six times they have come back to win the following week, and often against high-quality opposition.

In 2023 they beat Melbourne (in the lights-out Gabba game) a week after being towelled up by Port Adelaide.

The next year it was a win over Gold Coast (the Logan Morris debut game) a week after an infamous hiding to Greater Western Sydney in Canberra.

Last year they bounced back against St Kilda after being thumped by Collingwood and then beat the first-placed Magpies at the MCG after being embarrassed by Gold Coast.

And this year the Lions lost to Fremantle after the record-breaking demolition by GWS but followed a shocker against Carlton with a top-four-defining win over Hawthorn.

After being belted by Sydney at the SCG last Saturday, can the Lions fight back one more time?

"It gives you confidence, but it doesn't mean it's going to happen," coach Chris Fagan said following the Swans loss.

"That's what we have to make sure of next week, that we leave nothing to chance. 

"That our attitude and our mindset is spot on, because it clearly wasn't tonight. I'm looking forward to a really positive response.

"The ball's in our players' court. How badly do they want it? We'll see."

The Lions often give an indication early in matches how switched on they are mentally with their defensive reaction time and willingness to hunt the opposition without the ball.

Champion Data statistics say that over the past two seasons, when Brisbane's 'Pressure Factor' exceeds 180 during the opening 15 minutes of a match, the Lions have been beaten just twice.

When it drops below that mark, the win-loss is a 50-50 proposition.

In their three heavy losses this season – the Giants in round 11, Blues in round 21 and Sydney at the weekend – the numbers are overwhelming.

Over the season they are bang average, ninth in the competition, for Pressure Factor differential, with a net 0.0. In the three beltings they are 0.15, indicating how far off the opposition they are.

By sheer volume, Brisbane is the best clearance team in the competition, with Sam Draper, Lachie Neale, Will Ashcroft, Josh Dunkley and co responsible for a plus-seven advantage on average.

In the blowouts, that slips to minus-seven.

The Lions are also the most productive team in the League from centre ball-ups, outscoring their opponents by an average of a goal a game.

In the big losses, that drops to minus-21, with the undermanned Swans pasting their bigger-name rivals with six goals from that source on Saturday.

Pressure, clearances and scores from the centre are a great place to look, but statistics also show the Lions go from third in the AFL for inside 50 differential (+6.8) to a horror minus-18.7 when they lose big.

If you want to look for player impact in wins versus losses, All-Australian Logan Morris has the biggest drop-off, which can partly be put down to less supply in his direction.

Co-captain Hugh McCluggage is also well below his best when Brisbane loses.
