Answerth did some running at Tuesday's session but is still a huge question mark to take his place against Hawthorn in Saturday's preliminary final. The lockdown defender did some strong run-throughs but will need to progress significantly by Thursday's main session to put his hand up for selection. If he makes it, either Ty Gallop or Darcy Gardiner is likely to be the unlucky omission. Bruce Reville, Lincoln McCarthy, Dan Annable and Will McLachlan are all waiting in the wings for any last-minute mishaps. - Michael Whiting

Cox and Walker both completed main training and a brief match simulation on Tuesday to push their cases for selection in Friday night's preliminary final. Cox has appeal because of his ability to lock down on one of the Swans' three tall forwards, while Walker would be a good match-up for Tom Papley after showing good signs against Nick Watson a fortnight ago. The small defender had his speed and agility back after an ankle injury and laid some strong tackles in Tuesday's main session. Darcy trained with the main group after recovering from a knock to the knee in the WAFL, while half-forward Chris Scerri, wingman Nathan O'Driscoll and midfielder Jaeger O'Meara are others on the cusp of selection as the Dockers also prepare for Peel Thunder's WAFL Grand Final against Claremont on Sunday. – Nathan Schmook

It is a big week for both teams at Hawthorn. Box Hill returns to the VFL Grand Final stage on Sunday. Ned Reeves will be available for selection this weekend after being cleared of a larynx issue. Butler is challenging a two-match suspension at the VFL Tribunal and also dealing with a minor hamstring issue. Noah Mraz, Jack Dalton and Max Ramsden were all emergencies for the trip to Perth against Fremantle. - Josh Gabelich

McInerney appears to be the likely replacement for injured captain Mills in the midfield as he nears a return from a 15-week hamstring injury. After returning to team training last week, he will face a fitness test ahead of Friday's preliminary final. Joel Amartey, who missed selection for the qualifying final despite passing key fitness benchmarks, is also pushing for a recall, though Hayden McLean will be hard to shift from Sydney's forward setup. Meanwhile, Lewis Melican could be brought in to counter the Dockers' tall forward line. Elsewhere, Chamberlain has rejoined full team training and is listed as a test for this this week. Bowman also remains on track as he builds toward full team training, developing his speed, strength and physical capacity ahead of a potential Grand Final for the Swans next weekend. - Emily Patterson
