OSCAR Allen and Sam Draper shared a car to training for their first four months in Brisbane and on Saturday they’ll share the MCG as the only two Lions yet to win a premiership.

The pair were Brisbane’s big off-season free agent acquisitions following the 2025 season, with Allen heading east after eight years at West Coast and Draper north after nine at Essendon.

"I'm very happy with how things turned out," Allen said on Friday morning.

"I've come to the club to play in big, important games, and clearly this weekend is going to be the biggest and most important and I’m really looking forward to it."

As the two new faces entering an established club, Allen and Draper gravitated towards each other quickly.

It was made easier by the fact they are virtual neighbours.

"Drapes and I have been really good mates," Allen said.

"When we first moved to 'Brissie' we lived 200m away (from each other), so we were driving to training every day for four months.

"He was a bit stingy, he didn’t bring his car over, so I was having to drive him every day," Allen laughed.

"We've formed a great relationship, so to be in the same boat as him is great."

Draper said the 30-minute trip from their eastern suburbs home to the Lions’ training base at Springfield was a great chance to build their relationship, even if they had different ways of attacking the early hours of the morning.

"If you know Oscar he's got a lot of energy, so we're talking 5.30-6 in the morning and he's beaming with energy and I can't get a word in," Draper smiled.

"It's not too bad in the morning, I don't mind that because I’m a bit slower to start.

"Even our partners have become best friends. Having that has been really good.

"He's a good man and I'm happy he's able to be out there with me on the weekend."

Both referenced Brisbane’s medical department as being critical to their respective decisions to head to the two-time premiers.

Allen suffered a foot injury early in the season and missed three months, saying the club progressed his rehabilitation quickly to ensure he had a good run in to the finals.

Draper missed Opening Round but has gone on to play the past 25 games in a remarkable recovery from a ruptured Achilles.

Much like Lincoln McCarthy, Marcus Adams, Grant Birchall and Joe Daniher before them, the pair have turned injury-ravaged recent seasons into continuity at the Lions.

"I knew I'd made the right call before the season started," Draper said.

"I was in a pretty bad way last year coming off the Achilles rupture and I knew I needed a change.

"Brissie was able to offer a fresh start for me and my partner in a new state. I’ve played every game and we’re in a Grand Final.

"It's going pretty well so far, but the job’s not finished yet."
