FREMANTLE played its part in a classic Grand Final and had several stars deliver on the biggest stage. With the Norm Smith winner on its side and several dominant midfielders, it produced a team performance that was capable of delivering a maiden premiership if not for Brisbane's late brilliance.

Jye Amiss – 6
Didn't see a lot of the ball early, but was strong with his bodywork whenever involved and won important contests to kick two goals through the middle stages. His contested marking was a feature and he performed his role after leading the Dockers' goalkicking this season.  

Shai Bolton – 8
The midfielder was electric around the ball all day and won the Norm Smith Medal with 26 disposals and nine inside 50s. He created chances but didn't always capitalise when streaming forward, with missed shots and inside 50s that came unstuck. Was the Dockers' leading ball-winner and capped off a supreme September individually. 

Andrew Brayshaw – 7
A key contributor in the first half with 11 disposals and four clearances, setting the tone with his combative approach and team-first mentality, fading somewhat in the second half to finish with 16 and six clearances. Laid seven tackles, including a brilliant rundown effort on Will Ashcroft. 

Heath Chapman – 7
Produced a pair of clutch defensive plays in the third quarter and was smart with his positioning and ball use all day with 10 disposals and five intercepts. Had the job on the dangerous Cam Rayner for large periods but peeled off well.  

Jordan Clark – 6
Had to fight through attention from defensive forward Conor McKenna and saw less of the ball than normal, finishing with 14 disposals. Showed his courage on a number of occasions though when sitting under high balls, and rebounded when he had opportunities, albeit without his usual punish.  

Mason Cox – 1
Only played 32 per cent game time and was not a factor, with Luke Jackson carrying the vast majority of the ruck work. Finished with two disposals and four hitouts in his third Grand Final, with the Dockers missing his aerial contest. 

Isaiah Dudley – 8
Came of age on the big stage and was not overawed at any point in a terrific performance from a small forward. His ability to capitalise on half chances was a feature, kicking two goals and creating several more, with his duck under a tackle and 45m goal in the third quarter a highlight.  

Neil Erasmus – 5 
Played on the wing and finished with 11 disposals and four tackles, rotating as an inside midfielder. Brisbane's wingers had influence at times and Erasmus wasn't an attacking threat the other way. Handled several contested moments well when he needed to. 

Michael Frederick – 6
Had a few big moments, including a desperate tackle on the last line of defence in the second quarter and another key pressure effort late in the third. He booted a big goal in the fourth quarter, marking and snapping his set shot after an earlier Lions mark wasn't paid.  

Luke Jackson – 9
The big ruckman was magnificent all day and a major reason behind the Dockers' centre clearance dominance throughout the match. His tap work was supreme, leaping over Sam Draper, and he set up goals with his ground-level work. Finished with a massive 47 hitouts in a workhorse performance that was full of heart, combining brilliantly on several occasions with Caleb Serong.  

Matthew Johnson – 6 
Performed his role as a defensively minded midfielder and wingman, finishing with 16 disposals and six marks after a quiet start. While not a player who had standout moments, he applied pressure when he needed and was generally effective with the ball. 

Oscar McDonald – 7
Stood up in his key defensive post and was particularly effective through the third quarter when he was moved onto Logan Morris following captain Alex Pearce's game-ending injury. Intercepted well and won several one-on-one contests as the last man standing in the key posts.  

Judd McVee – 7
Had his hands full with Charlie Cameron and worked his way into the game well. Was caught out at times by Cameron's craft, but stuck to his task well and was composed and effective with the ball. Saved a goal with a goal-line mark and landed a desperate diving smother.  

Alex Pearce – 4
The skipper was getting the job done on danger man Logan Morris but had his Grand Final ended with an Achilles injury in the third quarter. On crutches after the match, he spoke with class while on the dais with crutches and showed his leadership with his team.  

Murphy Reid – 7
The second-year midfielder was brilliant early and had an equal game-high nine disposals in the first quarter. He lacked composure at one point while streaming forward but made up for it moments later with a stoppage goal. Classy, creative, and able to find space through the middle stages, he faded later in the game.  

Luke Ryan – 5
Forced to play tall from the start against Oscar Allen, he was shifted onto Morris for a period after Pearce's injury and had a pair of big moments with a contest win and strong tackle. He was caught out by the Lions' speedy smalls, however, and finished with 13 disposals and five rebounds.  

Caleb Serong – 9
The midfielder's performance would have been remembered as heroic if the Dockers had held on, with Serong at his combative best at the coalface with a game-high 13 clearances and 17 contested possessions. Finished with 24 disposals in a performance that enhanced his reputation as a big-game player.  

Sam Switkowski – 6
The retiring half-forward looked dangerous when he got the ball through the corridor and he had composure with the footy several times during scoring chains. Had total commitment in every moment he was involved in, throwing himself at contests and finishing his career in a proud way.   

Josh Treacy – 5
Booted a terrific early goal from 55m but will regret a late miss under pressure from the goalsquare. Was strong in the air with six marks from his nine disposals, and finished with 1.2.  

Patrick Voss – 7
Got on top of Lions star Harris Andrews with two first-half goals and had some strong efforts in the air, with the powerful Docker looking like the most dangerous forward on the ground at times while playing an accountable role. Looked like he had sealed the win when he marked at the top of the goalsquare and kicked his third goal.   

Corey Wagner – 5
Was desperate all day and got his hands dirty, chasing hard and laying physical pressure. His accountable midfield role saw him spending time on Lachie Neale at stages while also rotating on the wing, and he finished with 11 disposals.  

Karl Worner – 7
Among the defenders who stood up under pressure, preventing Kai Lohmann from playing a game-breaking role and then getting involved offensively when he needed to. Played with courage in the air and with the ball. 

Hayden Young – 8
Made an outstanding start with seven disposals and four tackles in the opening quarter and finished with 22 and nine in a relentless and tough midfield performance. His goal from the pocket on the edge of three-quarter time was pure class.
