GOLD Coast's all-time leading goalkicker Ben King's move to Hawthorn is complete after the Suns elected not to match the Hawks' offer for the restricted free agent.
Gold Coast receives a round one pick - currently pick No.7 - as compensation.
Hawthorn lodged the free agency paperwork on Tuesday, as reported by AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey, which gave the Suns three days to decide if they would match the offer and force a trade, or take the compensation pick from the AFL.
King, a restricted free agent, moves to the Hawks on a seven-year deal to the end of 2034 worth more than $9 million across its life span.
"Over a number of seasons, Ben has proven himself to be one of the AFL’'spremier key forwards, consistently hitting the scoreboard as a tall target in attack with elite accuracy," Hawthorn recruiting and list boss Mark McKenzie said.
"At 26, Ben joins the Hawks at the peak of his powers with his strong attributes further enhancing what our exciting forward line looks like in 2027 and beyond.
"While Ben is clearly a highly talented individual, he’s also a person of high character who we know will make an immediate impact within our program."
The news comes as the young Hawks forward Aidan Schubert requested a trade north to join the Suns.
King has kicked 315 goals for the Suns, including 60 this year after a career-best 71 in 2025.
He has placed in the top five of the League's Coleman Medal in the past three consecutive seasons, while he has been held goalless on just three occasions in his past 72 games.
"Ben has been a dedicated and valued contributor to our football club for the past eight years," Gold Coast list and recruiting boss Kall Burns said.
"We would like to thank him for all he has given to our football club and wish him all the best in this next stage of his career."
The Hawks hope the Sandringham product can slip seamlessly into their forward line alongside Jack Gunston and Mitch Lewis, with Nick Watson running around at the tall timber's feet.
