FREMANTLE superstar Luke Jackson has underlined his status as one of the game's best players by winning his first Doig Medal as the Dockers' club champion on Saturday night, capping an outstanding season for the dynamic ruckman.Â
Jackson polled 269 votes to win from co-vice captains Andrew Brayshaw (229) and Caleb Serong (228), with Brayshaw finishing runner-up for the fourth straight year as the Dockers recognised an incredible season that ended in Grand Final heartbreak.Â
Star forward Josh Treacy (225) and Norm Smith medallist Shai Bolton (218) rounded out the top five, with retiring forward Sam Switkowski also celebrated with a top-10 finish in a count that highlighted the Dockers' depth in 2026.Â
After also earning All-Australian selection for the first time in 2026, Jackson was a runaway winner after taking the lead through the middle stages of the season, with the big man playing every game and then starring in September.
The 25-year-old moved into the No.1 ruck role this season and averaged a career-high 26.5 hitouts, 18.4 disposals, 4.9 clearances, and 11.2 contested possessions while still pushing forward to kick 29 goals.Â
His performance in the Grand Final was outstanding, amassing 47 hitouts in a powerful ruck performance that saw him repeatedly leaping over opponents and tapping to advantage.
Jackson stood tall in big games throughout the year and was prominent in several Freo fightbacks with his dominant ruck work and clutch goalkicking, spearheading a heroic win against Geelong in the semi-final at Optus Stadium.
The ex-Melbourne premiership player laid the platform for his brilliant season with a committed off-season last year and a focus on building the physical strength and power needed to take on bigger ruckmen.Â
The 'unicorn' found the right balance of size and mobility to dominate in his position, challenging former teammate Max Gawn as the best ruckman in the AFL as he approaches his 150th game early next season. Â
Brayshaw was recognised for a season that saw him play a selfless role as a more defensive midfielder, changing his approach as a player and making the Dockers better as a result. By finishing runner-up, the 2022 winner joined club great Matthew Pavlich as one of only two players to finish top two for five consecutive years.Â
Serong finished just one vote behind in third after winning the Doig Medal for three straight years, with Treacy securing his third straight top-four finish after a career-best 57-goal season.Â
Bolton's second season with Fremantle was outstanding, with the former Richmond star averaging a career-high 22.8 disposals as a dynamic midfielder who added an attacking edge to the Dockers' game, with his year capped with the Norm Smith Medal last Saturday.Â
The night was noteworthy for how many strong contributors fell outside the top 10, highlighting the Dockers' depth as defenders Karl Worner, Heath Chapman and Jordan Clark all finished outside the top bracket.Â
In other awards, first-year half-forward Chris Scerri took home the Beacon Award as the club's most promising young player after joining the club as a pre-season selection and playing nine games.
Captain Alex Pearce took home his third consecutive Players’ Award, while Jackson and Serong were named joint winners of the Player of the Finals Series award, with both elevating in the biggest games of the year.Â
Retiring star Switkowski was named Best Clubman, while the club inducted five new life members, including Pearce, Serong, key defender Brennan Cox, senior physiotherapist Marshall Stockden and ceremonial leader Dr Richard Walley.
Doig Medal voting involves coach Justin Longmuir and assistant coaches Jaymie Graham, Jade Rawlings and Joel Corey each awarding votes on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis after every match, including finals, with players able to earn a maximum of 20 votes for each game.Â
