FORMER Carlton ruckman Alex Mirkov is set to secure a second chance in the AFL with Greater Western Sydney.

The 26-year-old has been offered a two-year deal to booster the Giants' ruck depth ahead of 2027.

Greater Western Sydney committed to signing Mirkov via the pre-season supplemental selection period, which opens after November's Telstra AFL Draft.

Mirkov underwent a medical with the Giants last week and has been ticked off.

The 210cm ruckman returned to the VFL this year after spending 2025 playing B-Grade amateur football with Old Ivanhoe in the VAFA.

But after impressing for Williamstown across this winter, where he averaged 32.7 hitouts and 11.7 disposals per game, Mirkov now has another chance at the highest level.

Mirkov spent three and a half seasons on the list at Princes Park after being selected in the 2021 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, but didn't play a game at AFL level.

Greater Western Sydney has been scouring the ruck market to support Nick Madden moving forward, who signed a four-year extension this year after significant interest from Richmond.

The Tigers signed Kieren Briggs instead, while the Giants have made approaches to Tim English, Ned Reeves and Rowan Marshall, who was traded to Geelong on Thursday morning.Â
