KEIDEAN Coleman has requested a trade to Essendon after meeting with new Bombers coach Mark McVeigh.

Bombers officials met with the contracted Lion over the past 24 hours, with Coleman telling the Lions he was keen to explore a move after a challenging few seasons with his body.

As reported by AFL.com.au on Monday, the Lions are maintaining a strong stance on the 26-year-old, who would qualify as an unrestricted free agent next year.

Essendon holds picks No.17, 21 and 27 along with its prized No.1 pick this year in which to work on a deal with the Lions, with rivals believing Brisbane would only move him for a top-20 selection.

A number of clubs have shown interest in Coleman, and the silky half-back has been open to a number of possible landing spots including Collingwood, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs.

A graduate of the Lions' Academy, Coleman displayed his game-changing ability across the 2023 finals series before rupturing his ACL in the first game of 2024, but ongoing injury issues across the past two seasons prevented him from becoming a premiership player at the club.

Essendon has already secured Geelong midfielder Jack Bowes earlier in the trade period as it begins its new era under McVeigh.
