WESTERN Bulldogs forward Tom Boyd will return to training on Friday after dislocating his finger in a training mishap.

The incident occurred towards the end of the Bulldogs' gruelling three-hour training session on Thursday.

The former Giant tackled a teammate during match practice and got his right hand caught in the jumper, dislocating his finger.

The multi-million dollar recruit immediately left the oval, with the club’s doctor able to pop the finger back into the joint straight away.

Boyd did not return to the training track but has since been cleared to resume training on Friday.

"Tom dislocated his finger in a training drill, and it was immediately reduced by the doctor on site," Bulldogs head physiotherapist Chris Bell told the club's website.

The 19-year-old hasn't enjoyed a smooth start to his career at Whitten Oval.

Three days after arriving at the club, he had his appendix removed and had since been confined to running laps.

This week was the first time he had returned to full training since the operation, and the young forward had being in impressive touch on Thursday.

Boyd showed off his aerial skills during the training session, taking several excellent contested marks against teammate Michael Talia.

Tagger Liam Picken told AFL.com.au Boyd's training accident was unfortunate.

"A finger [dislocation] is not too bad, so he should be right," Picken said.

"He's been looking good though. He along with all the new guys are fitting in really well.

"There are some guys who are a little bit older and then there's the young draftees and I think all of them have transitioned well into the club, so I think the environment is really good."

Pint-sized draftee Caleb Daniel looked impressive on the track, holding his own in a series of contact drills, while midfielder Lin Jong showed off his pace during match practice and appears set to become a regular contributor in the senior side.

The Bulldogs boast a relatively healthy list, with Matt Fuller returning to full training after Christmas following shoulder surgery.

Veteran defender Dale Morris, Tom Campbell and midfielder Clay Smith, who is returning from a second knee reconstruction, ran laps as the main group trained.

Midfielders Mitch Honeychurch, Koby Stevens and Nathan Hrovat were also absent from the main training group, with all three on modified training.

"At the moment, there's nearly a full list training and everyone is really healthy," Picken said.

"It's just exciting to be back – we've got NAB Challenge coming up in a month and a half so everyone is just really excited."
