The Giants have reduced to eight the number of AFL teams they have yet to beat. Hawthorn triumphed in the teams' only three meetings and the defending premier looked to be in control early when it led by 27 points. However, the Giants kicked the last five goals to half-time and proved strong in the closing stages to taste victory against the brown-and-gold for first time. 2. Cameron equals career best
Exciting GWS forward Jeremy Cameron posted a career-best seven goals on Saturday afternoon. The 22-year-old came alive after quarter-time, helping the Giants overcome a 27-point deficit midway through the second quarter to a four-point half-time lead and an eventual victory. The giant haul lifts Cameron, who battled Ryan Schoenmakers and Josh Gibson at various stages of the match, to 19 goals for the year. West Coast's Josh Kennedy leads the race for the Coleman Medal with 22 majors. The Eagles are away to Port Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.
3. No Lewis, no Hodge, no result
Jordan Lewis and Luke Hodge's ill-disciplined acts last week has proved costly for the Hawks. The pair was absent from Saturday's contest due to suspension and some of their drive through the midfield and sure hands in defence would have been helpful, given the number of times the defending premier's gave up possession coming out of the backline with some uncharacteristically careless disposal.
4. Fans flock to first Spotless game
All the ingredients were present for a bumper crowd at the Giants' first game at Spotless Stadium in 2015 - Sydney turned on a beautiful autumn day, GWS has started the season in encouraging style and the two-time defending premiers were in town. The official attendance of 13,556 was the second highest crowd at the venue, behind only the 17,102 that turned up for the Sydney derby in round one, 2014. The club had to wait until round six to play at Spotless due to the ground's Easter Show commitments.
5. Mitchell's show of strength
Sam Mitchell demonstrated how difficult it is to pin him to ground in the second term. The Hawthorn midfielder gathered the footy on the edge of the goalsquare and while being tackled managed to get boot to ball for a very clever, if somewhat miraculous, goal with a half drop kick, half mid-air hack for a six-pointer. It came despite the protests of GWS players, who were calling for a holding-the-ball decision.
