Name: Jacob Townsend

Height: 186cm

Weight: 89kg

Age: 22

Games: 28

Goals: 4

Drafted: Greater Western Sydney, 2011, NSW/ACT zone selection

2015 trade: Involved in a swap with Richmond in which the Tigers gave up their fourth round selection (currently pick 70) in exchange for Townsend and the Giants' seventh round selection (currently 120).

What the 2015 AFL Season Guide said: "A tough, hard-working midfielder, Townsend made further strides in 2014. Usually given a tagging role, he is a ferocious tackler and averaged 7.5 per game in his eight senior appearances. Is still learning how to win his own ball to have a greater impact on games, but remains on track to become the hard nut most teams crave."

Where will he play? Townsend is an inside midfielder who could fit in well at Richmond and has the ability to pick up possessions while also shutting down a dangerous opponent.

State league form: A pre-season foot injury ruined the first half of Townsend's season and a bout of concussion late in the year limited him to 10 games in the NEAFL. He was consistently among the best players but found opportunities at senior level difficult.

Best AFL performance: Townsend picked up 22 possessions and kicked a goal in the Giants' round 23 loss to Melbourne this season, which was his only senior game for the year.

Why Greater Western Sydney traded him: The pick acquired for losing Townsend – who isn't in their best 22 – allows the Giants greater flexibility in this year's draft.

What is he good at? Townsend works hard and has a fearless attack on the footy. He can be a valuable run-with player, with his tackling a standout.
