CARLTON backman Kade Simpson has signed a one-year deal to extend his career into a 15th season.
The vice-captain was excellent in 2016 and was nominated in the All Australian squad of 40.
Simpson, 32, told carltonfc.com.au about the impact coach Brendon Bolton has had on him.
"The club is united, and while we know we have plenty of hard work ahead of us, we have an exciting young list coming through and it’s an environment I want to be part of," Simpson said.
"I really enjoyed this season under Brendon Bolton and the coaching panel, and the body is feeling good.
"While I can still contribute to the playing group, I am keen to go on so I’m thankful to the club and my manager for making this happen."
Blues football manager Andrew McKay said Simpson remained an important part of the side.
"Kade is such a highly respected member of our playing group and the experience he brings to the side is invaluable," McKay said.
"Not only is he a fantastic leader and mentor for our defenders, he is just so reliable and consistent down back and we’re thrilled he’s staying on for another year."
Simpson will be one of the favourites to take home the club's best and fairest on Friday night. He was one of Carlton's three nominees for the AFLPA MVP, along with Sam Docherty and Bryce Gibbs.
Simpson previously won the John Nicholls Medal in 2013. He has played 264 games since being drafted at No. 45 in 2002.
