COLLINGWOOD is set to see a host of its stars play for the first time this year, with captain Scott Pendlebury, Adam Treloar, Taylor Adams and Brodie Grundy all named to face Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.

However, recruit Daniel Wells and injury-prone forward Jamie Elliott have been left out as he continues to battle a troublesome calf.

For the Dockers, who will play host at Rushton Park, Lachie Neale and Aaron Sandilands will take to the field after missing against West Coast last week.

Neale had multiple surgeries in the off-season after going under the knife for his shoulder, knee and wrist, while Sandilands had been kept out by a calf issue.

Last year's No.8 selection Griffin Logue will have to wait before he takes to an AFL field for the first time.

Star midfielder Patrick Cripps will represent Carlton for the first time this year after he was named in the 29-man squad to face St Kilda at Ikon Park on Saturday afternoon.

Cripps, 21, had dealt with a stress reaction in his lower back that kept him out of training but he returned to the main group in recent weeks.

However, Cripps will be without many of his experienced teammates, with captain Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson, Sam Docherty, Jack Silvagni and Matthew Kreuzer all left out.

As the Saints flagged, they will field a much younger squad, with Blake Acres headlining the list of inclusions after he was surprisingly left out versus Port Adelaide last Thursday.

Former skipper Nick Riewoldt, as well as new captain Jarryn Geary, will miss, along with Maverick Weller, Sam Gilbert, Tom Hickey, Dylan Roberton and Leigh Montagna, who has been sidelined with a calf strain.

The club's first selection last year, Ben Long, will make his Saints debut, while Josh Battle has also received a chance to show the form that saw him kick five goals in an intraclub match a fortnight ago.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood headlines the list of inclusions for the Cats' clash against Adelaide at Richmond Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Menzel has also been named, while Scott Selwood is yet to overcome a toe injury. Cameron Guthrie is also unavailable after a calf strain, but Lachie Henderson overcame corkies to the abdominals and hips suffered against Hawthorn to be named in the squad.

Forward pair Eddie Betts and Josh Jenkins have been left out of the Crows side. Rory Sloane (fractured eye socket), Brad Crouch (hamstring), Jake Lever (hamstring) and Scott Thompson (shoulder) are yet to play a pre-season game, although Lever has been cleared to return to the main group at training.

Crows fans may have the chance to see Ben Jarman, the son of two-time premiership star Darren, for the first time, after he was included in the squad.

Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray will play his first game for the year against Richmond at Malseed Park on Sunday.

Gray, who was was 'managed' in last week's loss to Saints, is joined in the team by  Nathan Krakouer, Jarman Impey and Aidyn Johnson despite the trio being unavailable to play in round one.

Neither of Brad Ebert or Aaron Young were named after they both played against the Saints.

As AFL.com.au flagged earlier this week, Alex Rance will line up for Richmond after overcoming hamstring tendinitis.

However, Dion Prestia will miss the clash after he was unscathed in his Tigers debut versus Adelaide last Friday. Prestia was restricted in his pre-season training after knee surgery ended his 2016 season at Gold Coast early. Bachar Houli was left out as he deals with a hamstring injury.
