FOOTY'S men with the whiteboard are psychologists, strategists, footy gurus and master tacticians; and where team success or failure is concerned, they are where the buck stops.

As part of the AFL.com.au Fan Awards, we want you to judge who is season 2017's best coach.

The nominees are ...

Leon Cameron, GWS

In his fourth year leading the Giants, Cameron's ability to maintain his side's success through an injury-ravaged season has been nothing short of amazing. GWS is now looking as dangerous as any side heading into the finals, and Cameron deserves a great deal of all the credit the Giants receive.

Don Pyke, Adelaide

The Crows' thrashing of GWS in round one was a clear sign that Adelaide would be a force to be reckoned with, and they haven't let their fans down. Pyke has moulded the Crows into the highest scoring team in the competition, and their attacking brand of football never fails to impress.

Chris Scott, Geelong

Despite a few minor hiccups along the way, Scott has once again proven his ability to demand a consistent, winning culture at Geelong. This was best displayed in round 21 when the Cats overcame a plethora of key outs in their crucial victory over Richmond.

John Longmire, Sydney

When the Swans limped into round seven with an 0-6 record, few could imagine that they would one of the flag favourites at the end of the season. But Longmire has remarkably directed his side back into premiership contention and must be considered as one of the coaches of the year.

Damien Hardwick, Richmond

Hardwick's response to pressure and criticism in recent years has been telling. Richmond was widely expected to miss a finals berth this season, but Hardwick has so far led his side into a commanding position on the ladder, with a focus on free-wheeling speed and aggression typifying the Tigers' 2017 resurgence.

John Worsfold, Essendon

Few coaches have had a tougher job than Worsfold in 2017. 'Woosha' has been able to successfully reintroduce Essendon's banned players into the side he led last year, and has encouraged a risk-taking brand that has excited football fans throughout the season.
