IKON Park's lighting will be upgraded ahead of next Wednesday night's JLT Community Series clash between Carlton and St Kilda.

Dim lighting at the venue has been a hot topic since Brisbane's AFLW coach Craig Starcevich lashed the visibility at the ground after watching his side's win over the Blues last Saturday evening.

Starcevich slammed the lighting as "terrible" and raised questions about player safety.

The AFL has since confirmed it will install extra lights - adding to the 600 already in place - before the next night game on February 28 when the Blues host the Saints.

"There will be a change by the time of next week's game," a League spokesman told AFL.com.au.

"Bearing in mind that 600 (lights) meets our safety requirements and again we stress we've had no issue raised by the broadcaster or by players.

"We had an issue raised by a coach so obviously we had to take that on board, and that has prompted the discussion as to what could be changed and altered."

Ikon Park will host two JLT matches this pre-season, with Richmond and North Melbourne also set to clash in a night fixture on March 7.

The only other AFLW match scheduled at the venue during the competition's regular season is on March 11, starting at 4.35pm (AEDT), between Carlton and Melbourne.
