ST KILDA will give Melbourne forward Dean Kent a fresh start, exchanging pick No.65 to the Demons for the injury-hit speedster.

Kent played 63 games for Melbourne, kicking 63 goals, but endured a frustrating 2018 campaign where he battled a series of hamstring and shoulder injuries.

The 24-year-old joins the Saints on a three-year deal, their second trade completed on Friday morning after also securing a move for Sydney champion Dan Hannebery.

"Dean's biggest strengths are his speed, power and penetrating kick," St Kilda list boss James Gallagher said.

"These are attributes we’ve identified as pretty important for our group going forward and we're excited to secure his services.

"He's proven to be a dangerous forward during his career to this point and we also think that he can play a role for us higher up the ground and through the midfield to add a different element to our current group."
