INJURY-PRONE Magpie Ben Reid will require scans after injuring his quad in Collingwood's VFL practice match draw with the Northern Blues.

Reid, 29, has had a wretched run with injuries in his career, including having minor surgery on both knees and persistent calf soreness last year.

The swingman only managed a quarter of the Pies' VFL game before the latest incident.

Reid has played 142 AFL games in his 12-year career, including just six in 2018 and 47 over the past five seasons.

VFL coach Jared Rivers told the club website the 7.4 (46)-all draw was a "scrappy affair", with draftee Isaac Quaynor impressing off half-back.

"After [half-time] the boys really lifted around the pill," Rivers said.

"Brayden Sier was better, Rupert (Wills), Alex (Woodward, VFL-listed player), those guys really got us going.

"I reckon in that second half we had the ball a lot more in our forward half which was the way we wanted to play. It was pleasing to fight back and scrape in for a draw, but [there are] things from the game that we'll learn from."
