ADELAIDE is sweating on scans for veteran midfielder Richard Douglas' ankle injury after a horror opening round of 2019. 

With confirmation rising defender Tom Doedee had ruptured his left ACL in Saturday's loss to Hawthorn, Douglas was sent for assessment on Sunday to a syndesmosis concern. 

North Melbourne also lost a defender for the season with scans confirming Ed Vickers-Willis ruptured the ACL in his left knee during the 82-point loss to Fremantle.

Veteran Docker Hayden Ballantyne will also have scans on an injured hamstring.

Greater Western Sydney defender Harry Perryman sat out the second half of Sunday's win over Essendon after he injured his shoulder in a crunching contest with Bomber Patrick Ambrose.

Lachie Keeffe appeared to suffer a serious left knee injury in the early stages before he received strapping and kicked three majors.

Gold Coast co-captain David Swallow injured his right knee early in the Suns' loss to St Kilda but returned to play out the match with strapping and provide a deep forward threat.

Teammate Ben Ainsworth was helped from the ground in the first term after Saint Jimmy Webster fell across his right leg, and while continuing to play briefly, failed to finish the contest.

Melbourne veteran Jordan Lewis is set to miss at least the next fortnight after a hamstring injury sustained late in the week forced him to miss the Demons' loss to Port Adelaide.

Power forward Todd Marshall suffered concussion in the final term and will be monitored ahead of Saturday's match against Carlton.

Richmond will be forced to re-shuffle its defence with scans confirming five-time All Australian Alex Rance had ruptured his ACL on Thursday night against Carlton.

- Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury headed for a mystery scan on Sunday despite playing out the Pies' loss to Geelong on Friday night. He told Channel Nine he would be right to face the Tigers on Thursday night. 

- Western Bulldog Matt Suckling injured his right ankle when the Marvel Stadium turf shifted beneath him on Saturday night but returned to finish the match. 

- Jaeger O'Meara and Ben McEvoy required stitches after a head clash in the Hawks' win over Adelaide. Liam Shiels dislocated a finger but isn't in doubt for the round two encounter with the Western Bulldogs

- Rookie Hawks defender Tim Mohr will face scans on Monday to examine damage to a dislocated knee he suffered in a VFL practice match on Sunday. 

- Eagle Jack Darling returned briefly after copping a corked thigh in Saturday's loss to Brisbane before finishing the match on the bench
