HAWTHORN has lost patience with champion forward Jarryd Roughead's lean run of form, dumping him to the VFL for the first time in more than seven years.

Roughead's on-field output was a talking point as far back as last season, with the 32-year-old fronting the media in July to deny he would consider retirement at the end of 2018.

However, the 2013 Coleman medallist, four-time premiership player and former captain has struggled throughout this year and had only eight disposals without a mark last week.

Elsewhere, Essendon regains Orazio Fantasia but managed Joe Daniher, Collingwood will be without Dayne Beams (hip), Melbourne selected Jack Viney, Matthew Kreuzer is in for Carlton and West Coast dropped premiership player Chris Masten.

The Hawks' Roughead call was an early one, given they don't play Greater Western Sydney until Sunday and didn't have to settle on their final 22 until Friday.

Marquee recruit Chad Wingard (hamstring) also won't face the Giants, who again won't have Lachie Whitfield (corked thigh) and lost Shane Mumford (knee) to injury.

In better news, primemover Josh Kelly is back for GWS.

James Frawley, Jack Scrimshaw, James Cousins, Conor Glass, Jon Ceglar and Harry Morrison are Hawthorn's potential inclusions.

The Bombers also brought in David Myers, Brayden Ham and Zac Clarke, the latter an interesting one with an injury cloud hanging over No.1 ruckman Tom Bellchambers.

Their Friday night opponent, Sydney, promoted Irishman Colin O'Riordan in place of Harry Cunningham (adductor) but still won't have Lance Franklin's services.

Key defender Harris Andrews and speedster Zac Bailey are Brisbane's additions, with the unlucky Josh Walker and Lewis Taylor making way for the match against the Western Bulldogs.

Matt Suckling comes in for Tory Dickson on the Bulldogs' side.

Will Setterfield and Mitch McGovern join Kreuzer as good additions for the Blues' clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.

They lost Liam Jones (concussion) and demoted Lochie O'Brien and Andrew Phillips, while the Pies replaced injured stars Beams and Taylor Adams (adductor) with Chris Mayne and Rupert Wills.

The Demons sent Alex Neal-Bullen back to the VFL for the second time this year to fit in co-captain Viney for the trip to Queensland to take on Gold Coast.

Pearce Hanley, Lachie Weller, Sean Lemmens and Jack Lukosius are the Suns' four inclusions at the expense of Jesse Joyce, George Horlin-Smith and injured pair Brayden Fiorini and Aaron Young.

St Kilda brought in Nathan Brown, Luke Dunstan and Ed Phillips, with top-10 draft pick Hunter Clark among the outs, while Jake Waterman takes Masten's spot at the Eagles.

Adelaide won't have Bryce Gibbs (back) for Saturday's night's Showdown with Port Adelaide.

Luke Brown is the incoming Crow, while the Power turned to Matthew Broadbent, Steven Motlop, Aidyn Johnson and Kane Farrell.

Ollie Wines (leg) and Brad Ebert (concussion) are the key outs.

Joel Selwood and Zach Tuohy are the biggest two inclusions at the Cats, with only Zach Guthrie out at this stage for Sunday's game against North Melbourne.

The Roos haven't dropped anyone yet, with Luke Davies-Uniacke, Sam Durdin and potential debutants Curtis Taylor and Kyron Hayden in the mix to be chosen.

There is carnage at Richmond, which will make a minimum of two changes for its trip west to face Fremantle at Optus Stadium.

Nick Vlastuin (ankle) and Daniel Rioli (quad) are out for the Tigers, who is set to regain David Astbury and may hand Jake Aarts and Riley Collier-Dawkins their AFL debut.

Brett Bewley, Brennan Cox, Sean Darcy and Taylin Duman are jockeying for a position at the Dockers, while Connor Blakely will have to wait at least another week.
