GEELONG defender Mark Blicavs has been fined $1000 for staging by the Match Review, making the in-form Cat the first player to be cited for such an action this season.

Blicavs fell to the ground after brushing past Swans defender Lewis Melican, staying on the floor for a number of seconds before eventually getting to his feet and taking his kick.

The incident wasn't enough to fool the umpire to win a 50m penalty and it wasn't enough to fool Michael Christian, who has fined the All Australian contender $1000 for staging.

Four players – Josh Green, Brayden Maynard, Callum Sinclair and Alex Rance – were fined $1000 each for staging last season, though Blicavs is the first to be cited in 2019.

He is one of just three players to be penalised by the Match Review from round 19.

Carlton veteran Dale Thomas was fined $3000 for a late and high spoil attempt on Lachie Murphy, while Josh Bruce was fined $2000 for digging his knees into Clayton Oliver.

Gold Coast defender Jarrod Harbrow's match day report for rough conduct was thrown out by Christian, after he was deemed to have not made sufficient high contact with Matt Guelfi.

Hawthorn defender Grant Birchall was also not punished for his misdemeanour involving friend and former teammate Luke Hodge, where he appeared to pinch his nether regions.
