Is this relationship frosty? Door open for rivals to swoop on out-of-contract Dee

Finals fever takes hold at Collingwood, as Dimma responds to 'insult' The Footy Feed team with all the latest finals news

OUT-OF-CONTRACT Melbourne defender Sam Frost says his priority is to stay at the Demons, but is keeping his options open the longer it takes for a new deal to be presented.

The Demons have yet to table a contract extension for the 26-year-old, opening the door for Hawthorn and reportedly North Melbourne to swoop.

Frost is coming off a career-best year, playing all 22 games and stepping up in the absence of big-name recruits Steven May and Jake Lever, who missed the majority of the season through injury.

"As far as I'm told through my management, they're having good conversations with Melbourne, so that's where I'd like to be," Frost told radio station SEN on Thursday morning.

"I'm waiting to hear from Melbourne.

The longer it goes on, waiting on Melbourne is probably the difficult part of it - Sam Frost

"These things are never easy and never straight forward, so it's an interesting time for everyone.

"There's no deadline or thing like that.

"I know they've got things they're working through.

"Time's sort of getting thin, so the sooner, the better, I suppose."

Frost said the Hawks had contacted his management, but he wasn't aware of reported interest from North Melbourne.

"There's one other club (apart from Hawthorn) that definitely have, and I'm sure there's others that have enquired," he said.

"The longer it goes on, waiting on Melbourne is probably the difficult part of it.

"You never know how these things are going to unfold."

Frost has played 91 career games with Melbourne and Greater Western Sydney.

He played 21 games in three seasons with the Giants before moving to the Demons at the end of 2014.
