THE SEASON might have just finished and the player movement period doesn't start until Friday but clubs and managers are already deep into discussions about changes ahead of next year.

Free agency officially opens on Friday while the Telstra AFL Trade Period begins next Monday.

Big-bodied midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen is set to join Brisbane as an unrestricted free agent, as first reported by AFL.com.au.

AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest developments each morning until the end of Trade Period on Wednesday, October 16.

Cats champion agrees to terms – but will he sign?

Geelong and modern-day great Gary Ablett have decided on what the maestro's contract would look like next year, reports Channel Seven.

All that needs to be decided now is whether the 35-year-old wants to sign that deal.

Ablett is said to be "60-40" about going on for a 19th season.

The Cats have been vocal about wanting Ablett to play on but he hasn't decided whether he will continue his outstanding career.

Ablett's manager Liam Pickering believes the dual Brownlow medallist will go on.

"I think 60-40, 70-30 that he'll play on. I'm confident that he'll play on, but I don't know. I'm not Gary. He's got to be the one that makes the call, not me," Pickering told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

But Pickering did confirm that an agreement had been reached.

"We've agreed on what the number is," Pickering said.

Asked whether it was for less money than his previous contract, Pickering said, "No, it's not actually."

Another bargain buy for Hawthorn

Powerhouse Greater Western Sydney forward Jonathon Patton is set to become a Hawk for as little as third-round pick in the NAB AFL Draft, according to the Herald Sun.

Patton, who was the No.1 pick in 2011, missed all of this year as he dealt with a third knee reconstruction.

The low price comes just 12 months after Hawthorn nabbed another former first overall selection from the Giants in Tom Scully, who cost just a future fourth-round pick.

AFL.com.au reported the Hawks were interested in Patton in April.

Patton is contracted for 2020, and removing his contract off the club's books will help retain other stars such as fellow goalkicker Jeremy Cameron and sublime midfielder Lachie Whitfield.

Sydney big man makes trade request

Darcy Cameron has officially sought a move to Collingwood, The Age says.

He didn't play a senior game this season but has consistently performed well in the NEAFL.

The 24-year-old will add depth to the Magpies' tall stocks.

Brodie Grundy is contracted for 2020 but will be a restricted free agent when that deal expires and has spoken about the lure of returning home to South Australia.

Mason Cox's underwhelming campaign (before it was ended by left eye surgery) means Cameron could battle for a spot in attack while relieving Grundy in the ruck.

Cameron's only game of his career came last year, after being drafted at pick No.48 in 2016.

AFL.com.au reported in June Cameron would be on the way out of the Swans.
