Joe Daniher has requested a trade to Sydney

JOE DANIHER has officially requested a trade to Sydney.

After months of speculation, the Essendon spearhead advised the club of his wishes this weekend.

BARRETT Swans set to pay huge draft price for Daniher

"The club acknowledges the reason behind this request from Joe, however he is a contracted player to the Essendon Football Club," its list manager Adrian Dodoro said.

"He is a very highly regarded player at our club and we have advised Joe that ultimately we want him playing for the Bombers in 2020.

"We will remain in contact with Joe's management over the course of the upcoming Telstra AFL Trade Period."

Daniher's future at Essendon has been uncertain since it was reported he met with Sydney CEO Tom Harley in August.

Three months on, the talented 25-year-old has advised the club of his ambition to play for the Swans - citing a change of lifestyle and a preference to live in Sydney as his motivation.

Daniher has kicked 188 goals from 104 games for the club, winning a best and fairest and being named All Australian in 2017.

However, he has played just 11 games in the last two seasons due to persistent groin injuries.

He was recruited to Essendon as a father-son back in 2012, but was also eligible to join Sydney as his father Anthony played 118 games for the Bombers and 115 for the Swans.

Sydney will now attempt to broker a trade for Daniher, with picks No.5, 25, 42, 51, 59 and 60 at its disposal.
