WEST Coast has edged up the draft order in a swap of late picks with Brisbane.

The Eagles packaged selections 52 and 64 to the Lions for No.46 and 91.

Pick 46 is now West Coast's top selection in this year's NAB AFL National Draft, with Essendon originally sending the Eagles No.52 as part of the Tim Kelly mega-deal.

The deal is worth 16 more points to Brisbane on the AFL draft value index, which is effectively the same as pick 72.

David Noble had a quote on Thursday that might give some context as to why clubs make these late pick swaps.

"Some clubs might think that they’re able to get the two or three guys that they like a bit further down in the draft so therefore they can split a pick out early and get the two players that they feel are going to help them," Noble told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.
