PORT Adelaide will enter this month's NAB AFL Draft with a bumper hand after landing a third first-round selection in a pick swap with Brisbane on Monday.

The Power have moved picks 29, 71 and a future-first round selection to the Lions and received picks 16, 52, 55 and 72.  

It leaves the Power with picks 12, 16 and 18 after moving out selection 29 to avoid having it absorbed in an expected bid for father-son prospect Jackson Mead, who is set to fall in the mid-to-late second round.  

Now armed with the Power's first-round pick for next year, the Lions will be banking on the Power having a poor finish in 2020 to reap the rewards for the deal.  

Based on the Draft Value Index, the Lions will win the trade regardless of where the Power finish in 2020.

Port trade makes sense as they'll get three bids in before a bid on Jackson Mead. It would have been touch-and-go a bid may have come around pick 29 had they stayed there. Lions are only using four picks at the draft so needed to shed some selections. Pick 21 still key for them.

Should the Power finish ninth again next season, as they did in 2019, the Lions will have an upper hand of 612 points – the equivalent of pick 31.  

By moving out four picks and bringing in two, the Lions have dropped from seven to five selections and will now enter the draft with picks 21, 29, 34, 48 and 71.

After nine changes to the senior list, the recruitment of Wylie Buzza and upgrade of rookies Jarrod Lienert and Peter Ladhams, the Power now have a minimum of four senior list spots to be filled at the draft. As it stands, they hold picks 12, 16, 18, 52, 55, 66, 67 and 68.
