THE MOMENTS after the siren sounds for a draw might be the most hollow in football. 

Just ask Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne and their Saints teammates, who got so close to a drought-breaking premiership in 2010, only to come back the next week and cop a hiding at the hands of the Magpies. The Saints haven't been close to contention since.

We'll never see another drawn Grand Final, thanks to a rule change brought in to allow extra time to decide the last game of the season, but history says we'll see 15 or more draws a year in the coming decade.
