EVER since the golden era of Fantasy, when we saw the likes of Gary Ablett (in his prime), Jimmy Bartel and Joel Corey running around, Geelong has always been one of the most Fantasy relevant teams in the league.

Although some of those names are no longer playing, others have stood up in their absence. Mitch Duncan (MID, 784,000) is one of those and is coming off his third straight season of averaging over 100.

Tom Stewart (DEF, $705,000) had a breakout season in 2019, boosting his average by 15 points from 80 to 95. He averaged 101 in his first eight games and will be a highly sought after player on Draft day.

Will the Cats' Fantasy-friendly style continue in 2020 and who are some of their potential targets?

Lock them in

Prior to the arrival of Tim Kelly, Patrick Dangerfield (MID, $798,000) had his two best Fantasy seasons averaging 121 and 118. Although he can now only be selected as a midfielder, averages like that would have ranked him as the best midfielder in 2019. This certainly makes him a target in all formats, despite the fact he has lost his forward eligibility. Dangerfield only attended 63 per cent of centre bounces in games he played last year, so expect him to be better than the 108 he is priced at.

Track their pre-season

Last year for the first time ever, Joel Selwood (MID, $585,000) averaged less than 80. He is coming off minor hamstring surgery and aims to be back into pre-season training this month. Leading into 2019, Selwood had averaged 100 over the last three years and is an absolute bargain if he’s fit and ready to go.

Dual-position tempter

Tim Kelly has left a void that Jack Steven (MID/FWD, $653,000) will aim to fill. After playing seven games last year with the Saints, Steven received a nine per cent discount which prices him at an average of 88. Despite being awkwardly priced, Steven has the potential to be a top six forward by the end of the year. Let’s not forget, this is a man who led the League in 2015 with an average of 112.

Draft sleeper

Before last season, Zach Tuohy (DEF, $507,000) had not missed a game for six years. For multiple reasons, Tuohy managed just 15 games in 2019 and averaged just 68. This is well short of Tuohy's previous two seasons where he has averaged 81 and 86 respectively. Tuohy is certainly a name that you'll need to be adjusting in your Draft rankings, as he currently sits 10 to 15 points under what he is capable of.

Bargain basement

In 2018, Geelong traded pick No.42 to Carlton to secure the services of Nathan Kreuger (FWD, $170,000). The 196cm key-position forward is being talked up this pre-season as an X-Factor for the Cats up forward. Cameron Taheny (FWD, $172,000) is another cheap option who could be a chance for early games. Taheny is a goalkicker from the SANFL who averaged 60 last year. Time will tell for these two, but they are both names you can jot down in your Fantasy black book.

Forgotten warrior

As Gary Ablett (FWD, $658,000) laces up the boots for his eighteenth and final season, let's not forget what he has achieved for us over the years. Firstly, he has a career average of 98 over his 300+ games and has averaged over 100 in 10 seasons. Based on averages, Ablett is the eighth-best forward we have available to us this year and a scary name to have in your Draft team.

Buyer beware

In 2015, Mark Blicavs (DEF, $505,000) averaged a career-high 97. However since then, his role has changed and his average has been slowly declining over the years to just 68 as it stands today. In the four games he helped out in the ruck last year, he scored 101, 85, 82 and 75. So this pre-season, if he gains more opportunities playing this role, then his stocks will only rise.
