BRISBANE'S top draftee Deven Robertson has put himself in contention for a round one debut against Hawthorn at the MCG after impressing his coach Chris Fagan in the Lions' final Marsh Community Series hitout against Carlton on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Blues will sweat on the fitness of defenders Caleb Marchbank (knock to the knee) and Lachie Plowman (rolled ankle) ahead of their season-opener against reigning premier Richmond.

Robertson, a midfielder from Perth who was snared by the Lions with pick No.22 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, collected 11 possessions (six contested) and a clearance in 63 per cent game time in his team's 45-point win at Ikon Park on Sunday.

The 19-year-old was particularly prominent in the third term when he won five touches as the Lions took control of the contest, eventually producing a 70-point turnaround after being 25 points down in the first quarter.

Fagan liked what he saw in the fiercely competitive Robertson.

"Tonight was more to see how he'd go at the level and I think we've just seen there that he's a pretty competitive young man, he's tough, he tackles, he puts his head over the ball and his teammates enjoy him being alongside them," Fagan told reporters post-match.

"So we've got a few selection dilemmas for round one because I don't think we've got too many injuries at the moment and there's some guys that showed some good form tonight. We've got a couple of weeks to work it out – it's probably a good thing."

While Fagan was pleased with how the Lions regrouped after a slow start, the opposite was the case for the Blues, who were excited by their early efforts before being completely overpowered around the contest.

Carlton assistant coach Dale Amos said the players would learn a great deal from the experience that would place them in good stead for the season proper.

Their cause will be helped if Marchbank and Plowman escape time on the sidelines.

Amos said Marchbank's issue "didn't look overly serious" while Plowman's also seemed "pretty minor".
