HAWTHORN midfielder Jaeger O'Meara has escaped serious damage after a head knock sustained at training yesterday.  

The vice-captain copped a knock to the face as the Hawks returned to full contact training with scans later confirming a fracture above his eyebrow.

O'Meara will avoid surgery but will be forced to sit out contact training in coming days as the injury heals.

It is expected O'Meara will need medical clearance in order to play against Geelong in 17 days' time.

The 26-year-old was one of the Hawks' best in the round one win over Brisbane, joining Tom Mitchell, James Worpel, Liam Shiels and Chad Wingard in the same midfield for the first time.
