SATURDAY night's Gold Coast-Richmond match will start 15 minutes later than scheduled after a massive electrical storm at the afternoon game between Greater Western Sydney and the Sydney Swans caused a 25-minute delay at quarter-time

Giants and Swans players remained in the safety of the rooms at the first change, emerging only when the huge storm had cleared.

The storm passed through almost as quickly as it arrived and Spotless Stadium was soon bathed in sunlight, but large areas of the ground were covered by water and ground staff had to remove debris from playing surface after the stadium itself was struck by lightning.

The Suns and Tigers clash was originally scheduled to start at 7.40pm AEDT, but will now commence at 7.55pm.
