CARLTON defender Simon White has been charged by police over an alleged assault.

But the Blues say the 26-year-old "will continue with his normal playing duties until advised otherwise".

White has been named to play against Fremantle in Perth on Thursday night.

He travelled with the team to Western Australia on Wednesday.

The alleged late night altercation with a fan happened after a concert that White attended with several teammates in May.

"We've charged a 26-year-old Brunswick West man relation to an alleged assault that occurred in the CBD on 14 May," a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed to AFL.com.au.

"He's been charged with recklessly cause injury and unlawful assault and has been summonsed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 21 November."

The Blues released a statement after police confirmed the charge, which read: "Simon and the football club have cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

"Simon has the full support of the Carlton Football Club.

"The AFL integrity unit has been fully informed throughout the investigation.

"Simon’s legal representatives will now assess the brief and determine how the case will proceed.

"As this is an on-going legal matter the club will not make any further comment at this time."
