MIDFIELDER Patrick Dangerfield is not on the trade table despite Melbourne revealing it is prepared to offer pick two and three in the 2014 NAB AFL draft for the Crows star.
Speculation on Dangerfield's future has been rife over the past few weeks since Adelaide sacked its coach Brenton Sanderson.
Melbourne's football operations manager Josh Mahoney told NAB AFL Trade Radio the Demons would be prepared to package up the high-end picks in this year's draft to help secure the superstar.
Melbourne already has pick No.2 but it is expected it will also receive pick No.3 as compensation for James Frawley leaving the club as an unrestricted free agent when the free agency period opens on Friday.
Mahoney believes that should that scenario eventuate, and should Dangerfield wish to leave Adelaide, then the Demons are in prime position to swoop.
"If there is the potential of getting someone like Patrick Dangerfield we would look to get the deal done," Mahoney said.
"We think that if that does play out, first of all Patrick says he's going to leave the Adelaide Football Club, and that certainly has to play out yet and Adelaide have to agree to do a deal.
"We think we're really well placed with potential picks that we will have. We also think we're well placed in terms of TTP (total player payments) as well, that we could get the deal done.
"We've got some other advantages with people we've got at the footy club, with Bernie Vince, and he's obviously played with Simon Goodwin who is our next coach.”
However, Adelaide's head of football David Noble told Trade Radio Dangerfield was not up for trade.
"We're really comfortable with where he is and the indications that he's given to us is that he's very settled and he wants to stay," Noble said.
Noble said the Crows fields phone calls from most Melbourne-based clubs at the end of each season in regards to the star midfielder's future. He said would be stunned if Dangerfield requested a trade.
"I'd be staggered if Patrick came to us within the next fortnight and said that's where his thinking was."
Dangerfield’s manager earlier echoed Noble’s comments, telling Trade Radio the midfielder was happy in South Australia.
"I think he's pretty happy at Adelaide at the moment," Connors said.
