YOUNG Bomber Kobe Mutch had to be taken to hospital with concussion after a training incident on Friday.

The Essendon midfielder, who has not been selected for the club's clash against Sydney on Sunday, received a heavy knock during the Bombers' session at Tullamarine on Friday.

The club confirmed an ambulance had been called after the incident and that the 22-year-old had headed for further tests after his concussion symptoms but was recovering well.

The Bombers are not holding a practice game against any opposing club this weekend for players not selected in the senior side, so Mutch was not going to be playing a game in coming days.

It continues a run of fitness issues for the hard-running wingman, who missed a significant chunk of last season with a serious hamstring tear.

Mutch, who joined the Bombers at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, has played four games for the club, his most recent coming in round three last year.

The session loomed as a critical one for star forward Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti in his bid to face the Swans despite his ankle concern.
