HAWTHORN expects to have small forward Cyril Rioli available for its preliminary final on Friday week.

Rioli has missed the Hawks' past two matches with the ankle injury he suffered in the round 22 win over North Melbourne.

The 2012 All Australian was picked to play in last week's qualifying final against the Sydney Swans, but was a late withdrawal.

With an extra week to prepare for the next match, Hawthorn head of football Chris Fagan said Rioli was on track to return.

"Having a bit of extra time now to get ready for our next game is of benefit to Cyril," Fagan told hawthornfc.com.au.

"It should allow him time to be right to play."

Rather than resting up, the Hawks have chosen to spend this week preparing as if they were playing a game.

"In the latter part of the week and over the weekend we'll have a couple of good, solid training sessions to get some conditioning into our legs in readiness for what will be a big clash next Friday night," Fagan said.

The minor premiers will also regain Lance Franklin for the preliminary final, the big forward having served his one-match suspension for a high bump on Nick Malceski in round 23.

"We're in really good shape – we couldn't be happier," Fagan said.

The Hawks will face the winner of this week's semi-final between Geelong and Port Adelaide for a place in the Grand Final.
