WEST Coast is set to lose Shannon Hurn for up to eight weeks and Scott Selwood for up to a month after the Eagles' bruising 20-point loss to Hawthorn last Friday night at Etihad Stadium.

Eagles coach John Worsfold said Hurn was set to have surgery on his right ankle after he was subbed out early on Friday night. 

"[It was a] pretty bad sort of injury to his ankle so we're bracing for the worst," Worsfold said on Monday. 

"[The] scenario is, he will need some surgery and be out for a couple of months.

"We will get that confirmed a bit later but at best he will miss a couple of weeks." 

To make matters worse, reigning best and fairest Selwood has a suspected broken thumb and could miss up to a month. 

"That looks like he will miss a number of weeks as well," Worsfold said. 

"Our docs are meeting now and going through all the scenarios, but it's not so good.

"I think Mitch Brown had a similar injury and might've missed four games. 

"Every possibility it will require some surgery."

West Coast may also lose Andrew Embley for a week if he pleads guilty to a level two misconduct offence. 

Embley received a two-match ban for kneeing Hawk Ben Stratton, which can be reduced to one week with an early guilty plea. 

Worsfold said the Eagles would pay a price for Embley's actions. 

"The rules that are in place, you pay a price," Worsfold said. 

"Andrew will pay a price and we move on.  

"He's disappointed that he acted that way, he knows it's going to hurt the team." 


"[It's] wonderful news for the footy club and obviously good for Mark," Worsfold said.

"He has been a wonderful player for the footy club and its great to have him here. 

"He's a good young man and most likely now we will see him finish out his career here."

West Coast has a short six-day turnaround before facing Essendon at Patersons Stadium on Thursday night. 

The Eagles then face Adelaide, Fremantle and the Sydney Swans in the following three weeks but Worsfold believes his side is good enough to still play finals.

"Over the next 10 rounds if we play our best footy we should expect to win enough games to be playing in the finals, absolutely," Worsfold said.
