FREMANTLE has traded midfielder Viv Michie to Melbourne in exchange for the Demons' fourth-round pick at the 2013 NAB AFL Draft (No.54 overall).

Michie, who was recruited with pick No.44 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, sought a trade to secure more playing opportunities after one game in three seasons.

He battled persistent foot injuries in his first two seasons, but recovered in 2013 to average 26 disposals in 16 games with WAFL club Peel Thunder, winning the best and fairest award.
St Kilda had shown interest in the 21-year-old, but his final decision was between the Demons and Fremantle, which was keen to retain the on-baller.

The Dockers kept faith in Michie while he battled stress fractures in his right foot, extending his contract for 2013.

The Victorian made his debut in round 14, against Geelong at Simonds Stadium, winning 13 disposals as the substitute.

He shapes as a bargain acquisition for Melbourne if he can build on the progress made in 2013 and play regular football under new coach Paul Roos.

Having completed extension gym programs while in rehab, he is a ready-made midfielder for the Demons, who are seeking to strengthen their on-ball brigade.
