AFL Statement

The AFL has tonight announced the fixture for Round Six of the 2020 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The first game of Round Six will see St Kilda play host to the Geelong Cats at Marvel Stadium on Thursday, July 9 at 7:40pm (AEST).

Fremantle and the West Coast Eagles will then return to Western Australia after their respective Round Six games in Queensland where they will be joined in WA by Geelong Cats and Collingwood subject to working through our protocols with the West Australian Government.

AFL General Manager of Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said Round Six of the 2020 Toyota AFL Premiership Season was constructed with the primary aim to optimise viewership for all fans across the country, while respecting and working though the various State Government restrictions in place at the time.

Other objectives include seeking to minimise team travel and provide the clubs a more traditional block of timeslots that ensures clubs have a minimum five-day break between games.

“As we navigate through the season, we will continue to be adaptable with our scheduling, ensuring our fixtures align with the relevant State Government restrictions in place at the time,” Mr Auld said.

“On behalf of the AFL, we thank the Adelaide Crows, Fremantle, Port Adelaide and the West Coast Eagles for their patience and support in the Queensland high performance centres over recent weeks, along with the Collingwood and Geelong football clubs for their support as we continue to work through the most unique period our game has faced.  We will continue to work through the protocols with the WA Government.

“We would also like to again thank all the State Governments for their support and for helping us to develop the strict protocols that have enabled us to protect players, staff and the wider community.”

“It is important for us to remain flexible and agile throughout this season, and the AFL will continue to be led by relevant State Governments and medical officials to ensure the game remains safe for everyone involved.”

Round six will consist of one Thursday night, one Friday night, one Saturday afternoon, one Saturday twilight, two Saturday nights, one Sunday afternoon, one Sunday twilight and one Sunday evening match.

The Sunday evening timeslot remains in place and is designed to optimise viewership.

Matches will be broadcast live by the Seven Network, Foxtel and via Kayo and the official AFL Live App thanks to Telstra.

The AFL would like to acknowledge the support of all industry stakeholders throughout this process as well as Optimal Planning for their assistance in the construction of the fixture.
