ESSENDON midfielder Zach Merrett faces a nervous wait from the Match Review after his hit on Jack Silvagni in Saturday night's loss to Carlton.
Merrett went to put pressure on Silvagni early in the first quarter but appeared to reach him with a fist to the ribs as the Blues midfielder disposed of the ball.

Silvagni was ruled out shortly after and subsequent scans have revealed he suffered a bruised lung and fractured rib.

He spent Saturday night in hospital and the club confirmed he will miss at least one week.
The AFL will release its Match Review from Saturday's matches later on Sunday.
