WEST Coast defender Shannon Hurn will be sidelined for at least a month due to a medial strain in his right knee.

Hurn copped a knock to his knee during the opening minutes of the 93-point victory over Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

He had his knee strapped and returned to the field only to be subbed out of the match in the second quarter.

The 26-year-old will now be out of action for four to six weeks.

It is a frustrating blow for Hurn and the Eagles given he missed the final 10 matches of 2013 due to an ankle injury.

In more positive news for West Coast, 2012 All Australian Beau Waters is edging closer to a return from his shoulder injury.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson said last Friday that Waters could be ready to play in three weeks.

"He's training really well," Simpson said.

"I think he's three or four weeks away from playing.

"So now it's just getting the conditioning in rather than worrying about his body."

Midfielder Mark Hutchings could return this week from a back injury that kept him out of the first two rounds.
