Puopolo named Best First Year Player
Mature-age recruit Paul Puopolo has taken out the Best First Year Player Award for 2011.
Puopolo was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 National Draft and, along with fellow mature-age recruit Isaac Smith, delivered a stand-out first season of AFL football.
The 23-year-old South Australian earned his debut in Round 7 versus Port Adelaide and never looked back, playing in every game since.
Puopolo’s success at containing opposition small forwards and rebounding the ball from the back-50 led to a great season by any standard, let alone for a first-year player.
