This might sound biased towards my fellow defenders, but those guys have all been really consistent over the first half of the season and would probably be among the leading contenders for the Club Champion award at this stage.
In my opinion, ‘Rog’ is probably among the best full-backs in the competition at the moment and should be strongly considered for a spot in the All-Australian team if he keeps up this form.
The big fella was just awesome last Sunday against the Crows.
He took something like nine marks from opposition kicks and leads the League in one percenters. ‘One percenters’ is one of the newer statistical categories in the AFL which includes things like smothers, knock-ons, spoils and shepherds.
Coaches generally love checking out the one percenters as it recognises who is doing those small, but important, things on the field that often go unnoticed.
‘Rog’ is streets ahead in this category with around 30 more than his nearest AFL rival while Joel Patfull is also ranked around the top ten.
Pearce Hanley is another guy who has really made an impact across half-back this year. He’s certainly not shy in taking the game on and is among the League leaders in marks, rebound 50s and running bounces.
Pearce’s drive from the backline has meant that the team can now afford to have Ash McGrath up forward - and he’s doing his job by kicking 12 goals in his past three games.
Rog and Jed particularly really stood up as leaders while Browny was out, and they haven’t taken a step back since he returned a couple weeks ago.
